The Trip (Tessellate)
The Trip is a DJ and production project by Max van Dijk and Oliver Hiam, who are the founders of the long-established party and label Tessellate. After a decade of hosting events and DJing at Corsica Studios, the duo began releasing music under the name “The Trip” in 2020. Their sound is shaped by experiences at Tessellate, where they've had the privilege of witnessing some of their favorite DJs perform. Unforgettable moments on the dancefl oor have inspired their music, and now they’re enjoying support from many of the artists they’ve booked over the years.
Sonically, they draw on UKG, progressive, tech house, and house elements from the '90s onward, weaving these infl uences into a distinctive, sample-heavy style. Their music has become a staple for a broad range of DJs including Palms Trax, Moxie, Avalon Emerson, Shanti Celeste, Sally C, Eliza Rose, and Ben UFO. They have also received signifi cant airtime on BBC Radio 1, with Sarah Story dubbing The Trip the “DJ’s Producer”.
Following the success of Fantasy Traxx and Uncovered in 2024—fi ve tracks of which were championed by Job Jobse in his summer mix—the duo carried strong momentum into 2025. This year saw them nominated for the DJ Mag Best of British Breakthrough Producer Award, deliver remixes for both Job Jobse’s new label and Palms Trax, and step further into collaboration with two joint EPs alongside Papa Nugs and Demi Riquisimo. They also expanded their catalogue with their new solo EP Clubdance2025, did a live stream for Mixmag Lab and recorded mixes for Feel My Bicep and Radio 1.
Off the back of a string of sell out shows in London and beyond in 2025, the future promises an exciting mix of original and collaborative releases, alongside an increasingly busy local and international calendar.
